Symbiosis Contemporary Art Exhibition Series “异质共生”当代艺术展
The Symbiosis Contemporary Art Exhibition resulted in three exhibition catalogues published by the Chongqing Changjiang Contemporary Art Museum. The third volume, Communication and Integration, is a 445-page bilingual Chinese–English publication. In 2006, Cai Qing served as curator at the museum for one year, curating three large-scale contemporary art exhibitions under the overarching title Symbiosis, accompanied by a series of academic lectures. “异质共生”当代艺术展，产生三本画册，由重庆长江当代美术馆出版。其中第三册《沟通共融》445页，中英双语。蔡青于2006年在重庆长江当代美术馆策展一年，先后贯穿策划了三次有规模的当代艺术大展“异质共生”，并有一连串学术讲座。
Construction Before Destruction — 2008, Shifo Village, Henan, China 《毁灭前的建造》2008，河南石佛村
Construction Before Destruction was a performance art festival curated by Cai Qing in Shifo Village, Henan, in 2008. At the time, the village was facing demolition and relocation. Because government compensation was calculated partly according to the amount of land and housing, villagers were actively expanding and constructing additional buildings to occupy more land and receive higher compensation. This phenomenon reflected a broader social reality across China during the period of rapid urban redevelopment. Through performance art, the festival intervened directly in this unfolding social situation, addressing questions of land, housing, economic interests, and survival within the rapidly changing landscape of urbanization in China. 《毁灭前的建造》是蔡青于2008年在河南石佛村策划的行为艺术节。当时石佛村正面临拆迁，由于政府按照土地和房屋面积给予拆迁补偿，村民纷纷积极扩建、加盖房屋，以占据更多土地并获得更多补偿。这一现象是当时中国各地城市扩张和拆迁过程中具有普遍象征意义的社会现象。通过行为艺术，艺术节介入这一正在发生的社会现场，以“建造”与“毁灭”之间的矛盾关系，回应快速城市化进程中的土地、房屋、利益和生存问题。
Spirit @ Flesh — Exhibition Catalogue 《灵@肉》展览画册
Cai Qing was perhaps among the early artists in China to use the public internet as a medium for artistic creation. In 2001, he presented The Sun and His Friends, an online art exhibition, at Thinker Café in the Wansheng Bookstore in Beijing. This bilingual catalogue documents his second online art exhibition, Spirit @ Flesh, presented in 2005 at Master Art Space in Beijing's 798 Art District. Because the content of the project was considered far too unconventional and ahead of its time, the catalogue encountered considerable difficulties during production — the printing had to be transferred between three different printing companies, and the final printer eventually printed all the pages but still refused to bind them. A total of 100 copies were produced. 蔡青也许是中国较早将大众网络作为艺术创作媒介的艺术家之一。2001年，他在北京万圣书苑的醒客咖啡发布了网络艺术展《太阳和他的好友》。这本画册记录的是他于2005年在北京798艺术区玛斯特艺术空间举办的第二次网络艺术展《灵@肉》。由于作品内容在当时过于超前，画册印制过程经历了多次波折，先后更换了三家印刷厂。最后一家印刷厂虽然完成了全书书页的印刷，却仍拒绝为其装订。最终共制作了100本。

Traces of Survival — Beijing, 1998 《生存痕迹》——北京，1998
Traces of Survival documented an important group exhibition of China's underground contemporary art scene after 1989. Initiated by Cai Qing and co-curated with Feng Boyi, the exhibition brought together a group of artists who were actively engaged in experimental artistic practices in China at the time. Participating artists included: Wang Jianwei, Gu Dexin, Song Dong, Zhang Defeng, Yin Xiuzhen, Lin Tianmiao, Wang Gongxin, Zhang Yonghe, Zhan Wang, Qiu Zhijie, and Cai Qing. 《生存痕迹》记录了1989年之后中国地下当代艺术的一次重要群展。展览由蔡青发起，并与冯博一共同策划，汇集了当时活跃于中国实验艺术现场的一批艺术家。参展艺术家包括：汪建伟、顾德新、宋冬、张德峰、尹秀珍、林天苗、王功新、张永和、展望、邱志杰、蔡青。

Introduction to Cai Qing's New Book Series 蔡青系列新书介绍
Performance art has long remained a marginal form of art in China. During the 1980s and 1990s, it existed largely in an underground context. Performance art has rarely received institutional or financial sponsorship and has largely depended on the personal passion, commitment, and persistence of individual artists. In recent years, China's cultural policies have become increasingly restrictive, while censorship has made artistic creation increasingly difficult, particularly in fields such as performance art and experimental film. This is precisely why Cai Qing has continued to engage deeply with performance art and to document, edit, and write books on the subject. The books he has written in recent years have all been completed bilingually in Chinese and English. They are not intended for publication in China, where they would be unlikely to pass censorship or might be substantially altered through extensive cuts. The "Overlapping Kassel" live performance art festival was held June 16–26, 2022, at the same time as Documenta. Of the team of 59 people who ended up at the Kassel site, more than one in four were infected and tested positive. We insisted on finishing the performance art festival as scheduled — this is the first large-scale live performance art festival in the world in a "post-epidemic era" that all artists have exchanged their lives for. In 2022, Cai Qing had the opportunity to publish an article on an online art platform, introducing the Taiwanese live performance art festival "Pure Land." The festival, curated by him, took place during the height of the pandemic in 2021, and was a testament to the resilience and creativity of artists during challenging times. Through the article, he aimed to offer readers a glimpse into the many performances and artistic expressions showcased at the festival, as well as the themes and ideas that inspired them.
